For more than the past 7 months, Kelptyn has bravely endured twice daily injections. They were often accompanied by awful bruising and bleeding that sometimes got out of control. Through the countless encounters with needles Kelptyn pushed us to an even deeper level of spirituality as he would take each blow with a grace I simply cannot describe. He learned how to say "little" or "small" in German, French, Spanish, and Portuguese because I would tell him the shot was a "little" pinch. He would request a particular language and specific songs to sing making sure I would hold the note during the song and do the injection at the same time.
Well, today Kelptyn had two surgeons with him in the CathLab. One removed the port that was more of a road block to his heart than a help to gaining easy access to his blood for tests. The other cleared passage ways in his heart to relieve built up pressure in the vessels. Today's procedure confirmed Dad and Mom's suspensions that his heart was a contributing factor to his reoccurring ICP issues. However, time will tell us for sure how much it contributed to his headaches.
We were very excited to tell Kelptyn in recovery after his procedure and 48th day of NPO the good news. We told him that he doesn't have to take the "pouco (little in Portuguese)" medicine anymore. We are eager to see his bruises heal and the bleeding to stop. Oh and I'm eager to find out how to get rid of our sharps container with about 500 needles in it. But mostly we look forward to our house being a safe haven once again.
