He has developed some red blood antibodies that are preventing him from growing red blood cells. I guess this can happen to some individuals post BMT. He also has an ANC of zero currently so we will be giving him his 1st blood transfusion since May 2013. He will also need some WBC stimulation (GCSF) and more immunosuppressant (steroids) to get everything at peace inside his body.
The good news and relief to us is that he had a high platelet count, plenty of young red blood cells, and the technicians actually saw the antibodies in his blood, thus, it leads us to believe he is still maintaining bone marrow function. We are still waiting for 4 viral lab tests which have to get mailed out and will take a couple days to get back. Perhaps, there is a virus that is responsible for starting all of this.
With this latest development and the need for more frequent lab draws, Kelptyn will more than likely have an under the skin port access put in surgically so that we do not have to poke him SO many times. For now he is able to rest some and his fever is managed.
A warm thank you to everyone who gives blood, our Kelptyn needs it!
