Then as I put Kelptyn to bed, all I could think about was how hard his little body had to fight to make this kind of comeback and I thought about his donor. I believe, Kelptyn and she are more connected than we realize. It's hard to make sense of the journey that's unfolded. Just two months ago his counts hit rock bottom at 0% and 1% donor, we were prepping ourselves for possibly a 3rd bone marrow transplant with a different donor, AND THEN we received our first contact letter from his donor and bit by bit his donor cells started to grow back for some reason that just can't really be explained medically.
I continue to be inspired and in awe of his donor. She has undergone anesthesia to donate her own bone marrow, then several months later was hooked up for an extensive blood draw to give Kelptyn her lymphocytes, and then she took her time to write us a letter. Her energy and presence just in sending us a letter was enough to not give up on what we thought were too few. She has given so selflessly, she has not given up on our son once, and she doesn't even know him. What a lady, what a soul, what a presence.
Our Happy Star continues to fill our lives with many gifts, one of which is a deep appreciation for music. Kelptyn has a whole collection of songs that mean a lot to us. The following song seems to meet us where we are and where we've been as a family. We're in this together and we will not give up. We continue to pray that Kelptyn holds on to these donor cells and can remodel his bones/blood production. Thank you everyone for walking beside us.
