During the night, Kelptyn's IV went bust and the IV team tried two more pokes this morning to get one going and failed. We are waiting for an anesthesiologist to give it a go to get an IV in him. It should be tough since Kelptyn currently has 6 blown "good" veins. We will either be giving Kelptyn a bolus of steroids, antibiotics, and GCSF via IV or he'll get two big shots and meds through the g-tube. We are opting to try the IV first because Kelptyn has not eaten or drank that well the past 24 hours so we need to hydrate him a bit too. We are hoping the GCSF will help re-populate his donor cells and hopefully we'll get to go home tomorrow.
Kelptyn's past two chimerism results:
3/14/14: 30% donor Tcells and 0% donor Mcells
4/11/14: 36% donor Tcells and 0% donor Mcells
His most recent X-rays from March show virtually no change in his bone density since November. We will repeat his chimerism again in the next few weeks. So it looks like we will enter summer scratching our heads wondering what his little body is up to and again we'll follow his lead.
P.S. Kelptyn's doing much better since I originally posted this so no IV, just a GCSF shot and an increase in steroids. :)
