The gift from Kelptyn's donor should arrive in the afternoon (maybe around 1:00 ish) and it should take about 1 to 2 hours to move from a little bag into his body. We hope we have helped him prepare his nest as best we could to house a guest permanently. He will take several medications and have some on stand by to hopefully avoid severe allergic reactions. We have to remember that the donor is a 9 out of 10 match (not a perfect match), but his best option so he might have some reactions to the different HLA. Once the transplant is complete, it may take several weeks to know if it is working or not. Blood labs will be able to tell us if he is engrafting (if his donor's marrow is growing in him). Although it feels like we've had to crawl our son to this day, you better believe I will be running once the bag is empty to pound on the gates of heaven just to say "hey, if my kid shows up here can you please just let him ding dong ditch".
Thank you for your continued prayers and well wishes during this most critical time in our son's life.
