This Thanksgiving week we have so much to be thankful for. This is the first week since Kelptyn was born that our family has had vacation time together and we are not in the hospital. Yippee! Kelptyn has enjoyed being home this week and went in for his doctor's appointment today.
We've been anxiously awaiting his appointment this week because Kelptyn has had some unusual pain related behaviors all week and we've been trying to figure out his source of discomfort. Well, I can't say that his doctor or us quite know what to make of these behaviors. Kelptyn's bone marrow continues to show improvements in blood production. He is making red cells and platelets on his own. His blood chemistries, including his calcium level, appear to be within normal ranges at this time. However, Kelptyn continues to struggle to make white blood cells. We don't know why. His ANC was 72 today, so he got GCSF and he will have his counts checked again next Tuesday and Friday. So we think maybe Kelptyn has a combination of things going on right on: poor white cell production, steroid withdrawal symptoms, a BUNCH of teeth coming in, constipation, and possible bone aches as his bones remodel. BUT he is doing LOADS better than he has been in a long time and his night time meds are now half of what they used to be. He still finds time to smile and play throughout the day.
Next, Friday the nurses will draw another chimerism to check the level of donor cells again. Which we anticipate are stabilizing. :)
